The Ko Kwai Fun Memorial Fund begins operation

Further to the update in early March, additional donations to the KKF Fund have brought our total to HK$110,600. All the donations have been turned over to BPS by the end of March.

Final details regarding the uses and allocation of the Fund, the implementation schedule, and future reporting to donors are summarized below.

Uses of the Fund

The KKF Fund will be used to promote and support student activities that reflect Kwai Fun’s character and interest, and will be allocated as follows:

(a) $60,000 will be reserved for annual awards in the following subjects:
(i) one award of HK$1,000 for the final year student with best results in the subject of History;
(ii) one award of HK$1,000 for the final year student with best results in the subject of Chinese History; and
(iii) two awards of HK$1,000 each for students in the highest class (S4 in 2009/2010; S5 in 2010/2011, and S6 from 2011/2012 onwards) with best results in the subject of Liberal Studies.

(b) $10,000 will be reserved for one to two annual awards of HK$500 each to students for outstanding community service;

(c) The remaining portion of the KKF Fund (HK$40,600) may be used for:
(i) leadership training for students;
(ii) emergency relief for students in need; and
(iii) other activities to be determined.

Implementation Schedule
The KKF Fund will begin operation immediately and will be applied towards awards for student performance in the current (2009/2010) academic year. Awards in the various categories will be given at the BPS Speech Day ceremony in December each year, starting in 2010. It is anticipated that the KKF Fund will operate for a period of 10-15 years on the basis of the amount of contribution received so far. If funds remain available or if additional funding is received, the KKF Fund may be extended beyond this period, subject to further discussions as necessary between the donors and BPS management at the time.

Reporting
BPS will provide annual reports on the use and status of the KKF Fund in December each year. These will be disseminated to each donor by email or post, with the help of the coordinators of the KKF Fund.
